1971 Mercedes Benz 600 Grand (Grosser) Aus delivered factory RHD
This beautiful example of a 600 was delivered new in Queensland (via Yorkstar Motors) and has had just four owners prior to our ownership of the vehicle, the last owner in Perth having it for five years after buying it from NSW. The 600 has always been a well maintained car and kept in near immaculate condition. When purchased by the previous owner he undertook a great deal of research and work to ensure the car met his exacting standards. The extensive hydraulic system received a lot of attention so it would all work perfectly – this work done by a local specialist renowned among 600 owners for his expertise. The car was left with a “fix anything which needs attention” instruction prior to registration in WA. The previous owner advises that the car retains its suspension height for weeks now before ‘sinking’. The car starts easily, idles and runs well immediately and the gear-changes are smooth. The ride is impressive, as is the performance from the 6.3-litre V8 engine. The car feels tight, with no rattles or anything untoward. The car features many desirable options including factory sunroof which can be hydraulically operated from the front or rear seats, full leather interior, air conditioning, cooler glove box, headrests and flag poles. For more information please contact Locky McCann on 0403 935 488.
The car has a known history of previous owners along with a full suite of extras and documentation.
The car has its original set of handbooks, tools, wheel and suspension chock set, and jack.
The previous owner searched the world to complete the material to go with the car. With the car now are the small decanter glasses which fit in the console box (almost unobtainable and very expensive), the portable television (with its original case and paperwork), a hydraulics maintenance kit, a comprehensive set of documentation including factory workshop and maintenance manuals, several different 600 sales brochures (in English), a flag kit with two flag-posts and full set of flags, first aid kit, several books and magazines. The owner also bought a set of correct curtains for the rear of the passenger compartment, which were missing when he purchased the car.
The interior of the car presents beautifully - the black leather has minor patina of age, but is in fine condition, with no splits and the big, plush seats providing proper support (The flash emphasises the patina in attached pictures). The extensive woodwork is in exceptionally good condition all round, bar one piece on the rear parcel shelf which is only slightly faded. The radio had been replaced with a modern unit prior to the previous owner’s purchase of the car, and he assures that the original amplifier remains in place – as does the original rear control unit. The hardware of handles, switches, knobs, chromework, etc are all excellent. The trim fits well and even the mesh map pockets remain tight.
Outside, the car has been repainted some years ago in the original colour to a very high standard. The paint retains a deep sheen and the panels are straight and correct. There is little to fault! The chrome and brightwork around the car shines beautifully and is in great condition all round. Recent white sidewall tyres suit the car well.
While this car is not a freshly restored concours car, it presents extremely well and would have to be one of the best presented 600s available in the market today. As you can see in the photos, has had recent extensive work done to ensure everything works correctly and drives impressively. As a part of a collection of classic cars, it has been used regularly to ensure all remains well, and with great enthusiasm from the previous owner who has considerable affection for the 600. The car will be sold with all the accessories and a history file.
These are magnificent cars, built to the highest possible standards of the day, lavishly equipped and are highly desirable collectors’ items today. Price on the car is POA, please contact us directly for more information, to arrange an inspection or to register interest in the vehicle.
